Bladder Diverticulectomy Bladder diverticula are mucosal extensions through the bladder wall which are caused by lower tract obstruction (Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy, Bladder Neck Contracture
or Urethral Strictures).
Traditional surgical treatment has been transperitoneal extravesical removal. With laparoscopic surgery,
diverticulectomy can be performed transvesically through the use of three small (5 mm) ports, one for the optic and two for the instruments.
After removal of the diverticulum, the opening in the
bladder wall is sutured in two layers. Post-operative
hospitalization depends more upon the recovery time from transurethral resection of the prostate than from the
laparoscopic diverticulectomy.
Average surgical time 60’.
