Partial nephrectomy When renal tumors are small (under 4 cm), radical nephrectomy may not be indicated because long term results can be equivalent with partial nephrectomy.
The procedure can be done either transperitoneally or through the retroperitoneum depending upon the location of the disease on the renal surface.
The first steps of the surgical technique are the same as in radical surgery. The kidney is prepared and atraumatic clamping of the renal pedicle is performed.
The small renal tumor is then resected with adequate margins and haemostasis is achieved with the same technique used during open surgery.
Average surgical time 120’-180’.
